Covergirl Classic 2011

logo

The roster was released last night for the Covergirl Classic which will take place on July 23rd at the UIC Pavillion on the University Of Illinois, Chicago.

The competition features both new and old stars from USA Gymnastics. Shawn Johnson will make her highly anticipated comeback and we will see many USA gymnasts whom we have not seen since Worlds 2010. Johnson and fellow veteran Chelsie Memmel who will also compete will use the Classics as a springboard to the Visa Championships in August. Bross, Raisman, Sacramone, Wieber and Caquatto, current national team members will use the competition as somewhat of a warm up towards the Visa’s. Johnson hopes to compete on three apparatus in her first competition back since returning from injury. You can read an update on a lot of the USA girls here in the lead up to the Covergirl Classic and Visa’s.

It’s a fantastic roster, I cannot wait for the competition. Where is Mattie Larson though? Larson, Sloan and Liukin are not listed as competing.Larson has already qualified but is not listed, the same goes for Ivana Hong, Samantha Shapiro, Kyra Hunter, Cassie Whitcomb and Chelsea Davis. Bridget Sloan is currently recovering from injury.

  1. Cam says:

At one point, I recall reading on IG or someplace that Ivana Hong and Samantha Shapiro have retired from elite gymnastics and both will begin studying and training at Stanford in the fall.

Kytra Hunter is assumed to be partaking in workouts at the University of Florida with teammate Marissa King.

Cassie Whitcomb has retired from elite gymnastics to begin at UCLA, and Chelsea Davis will be starting at the University of Georgia.

    Hope that helps!

  2. Admin says:

You’re right, I do remember reading that they have retired!

  3. Blake says:

Larson is still competing and Bridget was originally gooing to not compete at nats and put in a petition for selection but has decided to heal her shoulders and train for college. My friend said he heard this on a blog. It is sad though. Larson Has upgraded bars and beam.
