The official website of 19 year old Ukranian gymnast Mariya Livchikova reports that the gymnast has injured her knee. Speculation online says that she has torn her ACL for the third time. 3 times, under 20 year sof age!
Livchikova debuted as a senior in 2011, becoming injured during podium training at the World Championships, thus missing out on the Ukraine’s single spot at the Olympic Games. This was her first ACL tear of her senior career.
She made a comeback in 2012, competing AA at the European Championships. Her comeback was short lived as 2013 brought another ACL tear ruling her out of the European Championships, although she was not competition ready for the 2013 World Championships.
3 ACL tears in 4 years – that’s got to be the end of Livchikova’s career. For her bodies sake I hope that she makes the wise decision to retire.
I question what kind of repair surgery she goes under
Diana, as a physical therapist I would say we should be questioning what kind of rehab she does each time as a lot of the time ACL repairs fail due to inadequate rehab programmes.
