In an insane Bars final – Komova, Fan, Kocian and Spiridonova join in a 4 way tie for gold! At World Championships, they do not apply tie break rules.
- Fan CHN & Komova RUS & Kocian USA & Spiridonova RUS 15.366
- Douglas USA 15.100
- Shang CHN 14.900
- Harrold GBR 14.766
- Scheder GER 14.600
If tie break rules applied as per the Olympics, the jury would look towards the E score, Kocian and Komova tied for E score.
Many are asking when did this ever happen? The FIG has offered some clarification:
At the 1922 World Championships, there were 5 silver medallists on Parallel Bars.

At the 1903 World Championships, there was a 3-way tie for first place on the Pommel Horse. Same in 1992. — FIG ()
For the 1st time in World Championships history, 4 gymnasts have tied for gold, It happened on Uneven Bars at

Kind of a disappointment…It’s awesome for Fan Yilin and Spiridonova, but Komova and Kocian had the highest E scores…They should have had gold, Spiridonova should have silver and Fan Jilin should have Bronze.
I still think it’s terrible. Komova and/or Yan Yi Lin should have been the winner(s). Lumping them all together tarnishes the superior performances of the top gymnasts.
