Hopefully you’ll have read the inspiring story of Great Britain’s Imogen Cairns, she came back from serious injury to excel at the Commonwealth Games and then represent Great Britain at the World Gymnastics Championships, earning a place in the vault final placing 8th. Imogen recently spoke to the Evening Post about the prospect of London 2012.
Everything has gone so much better than I thought, I just wanted to get to the Commonwealth Games and anything else would have been a bonus. But I think I can push my body through a bit more and now I want to see what my limits are. When my body collapses, that will be it.
People now keep asking me about 2012 and I think it is more and more possible in my head. We are growing as a nation but only five will go to the Olympics. I will probably end up trying to go, but it will be tough.
Since Imogen is no longer competing on bars, she is excited to be working with new Beam and Floor coach Carol Angela Orchard . Her future plans include hopefully taking part in the European Championships in Berlin in April and the 2011 World Championships in Tokyo. She will also compete in the Glasgow Grand Prix at the end of November.
