Tweet It seems like the Swiss Gymnastics Federation is doing some “spring cleaning” (in winter!). Communication from the Federation today explains that the contracts of gymnasts Yasmin Zimmermann and Jennifer Senn have not been renewed. Zimmermann was part of the 2011 World Championships team which placed 18th out of 24 in the team competition. She was set to compete at the recent DTB Cup in Stuttgart but was forced to withdraw due to a foot injury. Senn was a member of the 2010 World Championships Team.

Tweet The Swiss Gymnastics Federation has announced yet again more retirements from it’s National Teams. 26 year old Roman Gisi and Niki Böschenstein. According to the FSG their contracts were not renewed, this decision was made mututally.

Tweet The Japanese Gymnastics Association has updated their website with a very small bit of news from the 2011 Tokyo Cup. Training was held yesterday and the report says that Australia’s Georgia Rose Brown suffered a finger fracture whilst on beam. The google translation says that she was ok to train safely yesterday but since this is an All Around competition, how will she fair on the other apparatus?

Tweet Just a month ago, 2008 Olympic Champion Nastia Liukinannounced her return to gymnastics, in the hopes of competing at the London 2012 Olympics. Announcing her comeback at the 2011 World Championships was seen as a poor choice by many avid gymnastics fans but Liukin revealed her intentions of starting 2-a-day training once the WCh’s were over, focusing on Uneven Bars and Balance Beam. For Liukin this means turning down lucrative deals and appearances and focusing on training.

Tweet Visa has signed 2010 World Floor Champion Lauren Mitchell as one of its sports ambassadors for its London 2012 Olympics campaign, “Go World”, to be unveiled on November 24th. Mitchell joins American swimmer Michael Phelps and New Zealand shot putter Valerie Adams as an ambassador. VISA are an official sponsor for the London 2012 Games. Tweet The Huffington Post reports that disgraced ex-Olympic Coach Don Peters who was accused of the sexual abuse of two athletes in the 1980′s has been banned for life by USA Gymnastics and has also had his place in the Hall of Fame revoked. Peters was declared “permanently ineligible” after a disciplinary hearing by USA Gymnastics last week.

Tweet World bronze vault medalist Phan Thi Ha Thanh took the SEA Games in Jakarta by storm. The 20 year old Vietnamese woman took gold in the All Around competition ahead of her team mate Do Thi Ngan Thuong and Singapore’s Lim Heem Wei secured the bronze medal. This is another boost for Phan Thi Ha Thanh who booked her place in the London 2012 Olympic Games when she placed third on vault in Tokyo.

Tweet As well as withdrawing from this weekends DTB Pokal Stuttgart World Cup, the 2010 World Champion has been forced to withdraw from a competition in Mexico scheduled for early December. Mustafina was originally due to make her comeback in Mexico, to which many were surprised but were even more surprised when her comeback was announced for this weekend.
