Tweet The All Around Gymnastics News, The Couch Gymnast and Fan Gymnastics have all reported the unfortunate news this morning that Sandra Izbasa has been forced to withdraw from the World Gymnastics Championships due to injury.

The Couch Gymnast reports;
This is very sad news for Romania who, relying on Izbasa’s big scores and consistency, were very much in the running for a team medal.  She also had excellent potential for earning a vault and floor medal while she was at it.

Tweet Many were surprised when 2008 Olympian Chellsie Memmel was left off the 2011 USA Worlds Team and only a few days later withdrew from the Pan Am’s team. The rumours that Memmel has had some problems with her shoulders were true, USAG confirmed this as the reason for her withdrawl from Pan Am’s.
Today USAG has confirmed that Memmel underwent surgery for a torn Biceps Tendon  following an MRI  scan when she left the Karolyi Ranch. It was felt that immediate surgery would be more appropriate and  a better chance of …

This team features three former World Champions and current Olympic Pommel bronze medallist Louis Smith.  The rest of the boys, Oldham, Panteleymonov, Thomas and Whitlock are rising BG stars. They are all charged with one task: to qualify in the top eight teams from 24 Countries, and so guarantee five GB slots for next year’s Olympic Games in London.

Tweet Swiss gymnast Sara Catanzaro has sustained an Achilles Tendon injury and has had to withdraw from the World Championships. She will be replaced by 17 year old Emily Berti. The Swiss WAG team now stands as:

Last years Italian WAG Team qualified 7th in the team competition. Vanessa Ferrari and Elisabetta Preziosa were the two highest ranking Italian women, placing 13th and 27th in the AA respectively. Ferrari went onto place 11th in the final with Preziosa in 23rd.

Tweet Tonight Sky Sports will air a special report on Great Britain’s Olympic hopeful Louis Smith. Sky Sports spent a week following Smith around, including spending time with him at a training camp in Lilleshall as well as chatting to other top GB gymnasts including Beth Tweddle.
Sky Sports also get an exclusive look at the routine Smith hopes will win him gold in London next year.  The report will air at 7.30pm GMT tonight. Fingers crossed that someone will be kind enough to put it up on YouTube!

Tweet Yesterday was a great day for Irish Gymnastics when Kieran Behan qualified third on floor at the 2011 World Series, Salamunov Memorial Cup (Category B) in Slovenia. Today was an even better day for the Tolworth gymnast when he won the bronze medal in the floor final, just 0.225 behind the first place. This is the best result that Irish Gymnastics have achieved in a FIG World Cup. Also representing Ireland was Anthony McDonnell. The competition also included top names such as Vasiliki Millousi, Matthias Fahrig, Eleftherios Petrounias and Zhang Hongtao also competed. …

Tweet Luckily the BBC will be showing a lot of the World Gymnastics Championships from Tokyo. These championships are such a big deal for the British World Teams ahead of London 2012 that there is a huge amount of interest in the sport. See the schedule here or below. There’s an 8 hour difference between GMT and Tokyo, they’re 8 hours ahead so some of the times are a bit early / awkward but those of us who have been getting up for the Rugby World Cup matches should be …

Tweet I only had 4 hours sleep between the USA Worlds Team announcement and getting up this morning but I’ve still had time to digest the USA’s new Worlds Team.
