Tweet Sandra Izbasa and Flavious Koczi have been named as the best Artistic Romanian gymnasts by the Romanian Gymnastics Federation. The Federation has put both Izbasa and Koczi at the top of the list for 2011.

Tweet 2012 is already shaping up to be a busy year for 2011 World All Around Champion Jordyn Wieber. Yesterday it was announced that she will compete with Worlds 2011 team mate Aly Raisman at the AT & T American Cup in March and now it is reported that she will compete at the Pacific Rim Championships, March 16th-18th. Wieber also announced in October that she has turned pro, thus giving up her NCAA eligibility and so has decided to become a professional athlete in the wake of her massive …

Tweet 2011 World all-around champion Jordyn Wieber of DeWitt, Mich./Gedderts’ Twistars USA, and 2011 World all-around finalists John Orzoco of the Bronx, N.Y./U.S. Olympic Training Center, and Aly Raisman of Needham, Mass./Brestyan’s American Gymnastics, have accepted invitations to compete in the 2012 AT&T American Cup, March 3, at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Tweet Not that any of us doubted that Kohei Uchimura wouldn’t make the Japanese Olympic team but a report from The Mainichi Daily News tells us that the three time All Around World Champion has been “given the nod” by the Japanese Gymnastics Association.  Uchimura is said to have been confirmed as representing Japan outside the normal Olympic Team selection process in the spring.
I can’t wait to see this guy in action in London.

Tweet Last month we told you that Australia’s Lauren Mitchell has been selected by the credit card company VISA as one of their London 2012 Ambassadors for their “Go World” campaign.

 
It seems that the sponsorship deal will really help Lauren achieve her goal of an Olympic gold medal. In an article in the Sydney Morning Herald, Lauren who has had to rely on government funding for sometime, explains just how so:

Tweet Today the FIG re-confirmed the 9 new WAG elements that have been added to the Code of Points.
Gymnasts have the opportunity to present new elements at any official FIG event. In order for them to be included in the Code of Points, the submitted elements must be successfully (without fall) performed by the gymnasts during World Championships, Olympic Games or Youth Olympic Games and have at least a “C” value.

Tweet The new Category B World Floor Champion, Irish gymnast Kieran Behan has earned himself a place at the London 2012 Test Event. This is a massive achievement for an Irish gymnast. Ireland’s first and only gymnast to enter the Olympic Games was Barry McDonald in 1996. 2011 has been an incredible year for Kieran, winning three FIG medals for his country. Tweet Yet again City of Lisburn Salto Gymnastics Club claimed the coveted title of Irish FIG National Team of the year yesterday at the WAG National Team Championships in Dublin. The competition, which was held in the new Janz Gymnastics Club full time facility, played host to seven teams and a number of individuals competing. The individual gymnasts must compete in order to qualify for the National Apparatus Finals in 2012.

Tweet We just got word that Kieran Behan from Ireland is currently sitting in first place on floor at the Ostrava World Cup Challenger in the Czech Republic in qualification. Kieran, sponsored by athletic clothing company Stoi Athletic Wear, has performed excellently at his two previous challenger cups, winning medals on floor at both competitions. Tweet Kohei Uchimura, the Japanese gymnast, first to win three consecutive All Around titles has been nominated by the United States Sports Association as Athlete of the year for 2011. The gymnast shares the nomination on the shortlist with others such as footballer David Beckham, tennis star Novak Djokovic, 2011 World Figure Skating Champion Patrick Chan, Kim Clijsters and golfer Yani Tseng.
Meanwhile Women’s World Champion Jordyn Wieber is nominated  in the women’s category.
