The first day of the 2015 World Gymnastics Championships is done and dusted. Following the opening ceremony, the competition kicked off with WAG qualification featuring the following:

  • Subdivision 1: ESP, ROU, MXG 21 (UZB, KAZ), MXG 23 (NOR,PAN,CYP)
  • Subdivision 2: JAP, AUT, MXG 1 (ISR, SVK, ECU, MGL), MXG 22 (GEO, UKR)
  • Subdivision 3: CAN, SWE, MXG 20 (BOL, SRB, LYU), MXG 17 (ARG, NZL)
  • Subdivision 4: MXG 13 (PHI, TTO, URU), MXG 5 (VEN, FIN), GBR, BRA
  • Subdivision 5: ITA, RUS, MXG 9 (ISL, MAR), MXG 10 (POR,PUR)
  • Subdivision 6: POL, GER, MXG 2 (COL, BAH, ALG), MXG 8 (CRO, SLO)

There were some fantastic performances and some big shockers, the biggest of all being that for the first time since the Munich Olympic Games in 1972 (according to FIG), Romania will most likely not feature in the team final and will be looking to fight for an Olympic team spot at the Test Event in Rio next April.

The current team standings:

  1. Russia 231.437
  2. Great Britain 227.162
  3. Italy 224.452
  4. Japan 223.863
  5. Canada 222.780
  6. Brazil 221.861
  7. Germany 219.261
  8. Romania 217.220
  9. Spain 210.094
  10. Poland 208.527
  11. Sweden 206.262
