British Gymnastics hit 56% membership increase in 10 years

British Gymnastics (BG) is celebrating a milestone today with the announcement that the National Governing Body has hit an all time membership high with a reported over 250,000 members affiliated to BG.

In a press release issued today BG’s CEO Jane Allen said:

“This is a very significant milestone for British Gymnastics and clearly shows the sport is thriving in the UK. Our membership base demonstrates that it is not just the youngsters enjoying the sport, adult gymnastics is on the rise too with adults wanting to return to the sport or find a new, exciting way to keep fit and have some fun. Since was created, it’s received half a million visits from people looking to find their nearest club and explore the gymnastics activities available.”

An Olympic Games on home turf with the added bonus of the success of the home nation at the Games (3 individual ART medals and MAG team bronze) has undoubtedly contributed to the rise in membership. As well as this BG cites that “there are more places to do gymnastics. £2million has been invested in facility development to increase capacity. In the last four years there have been 160 new dedicated gymnastics facilities created, with 120 satellite clubs established in the last two years”. The financial support from the UK Sport (lottery funded) has also helped to contribute to British Gymnastics success, growth and development in for high performance.

BG are on track, they have a huge amount of current talent and also talent coming through the ranks in both MAG and WAG. Congratulations to British Gymnastics on a great feat!
