Tweet I am shocked to hear this news this morning. Our beautiful 2010 World Beam Champion has announced her retirement from the sport of gymnastics, just aged 18 years old. Ana had a tough year this year, not making the beam finals at Worlds must have been the final moment for her before confirming her decision to retire as well as an unfortunate series of injuries.

Tweet Sandra Izbasa and Flavious Koczi have been named as the best Artistic Romanian gymnasts by the Romanian Gymnastics Federation. The Federation has put both Izbasa and Koczi at the top of the list for 2011.

Tweet Full  official results aren’t yet in for the ROM V GBR V POR friendly but we do know that the British Women won the team competition ahead of Romania, Hannah Whelan came first in the AA competition and performed a DTY on vault.British Gymnastics are due to report on the event on their website today or tomorrow.
While we wait for the official results, some videos have already turned up on YouTube.

Tweet Another friendly competition will take place this weekend ahead of the World Championships in Tokyo. Romania and Portugal will travel to the UK to compete with the British women at the National Training Centre in Lilleshall. At the same time the MAG British Championships will be going on in Stoke on Trent.

As yet there is only information available on the Romanian Gymnastics Federations website. At Romania’s  most recent competition against Germany and Switzerland in Germany, they won the team competition. Ana Porgras came top followed by Amelia Racea, Diana Bulimar …

Tweet Romania and Ana Porgras came out top at this World Championships warm up friendly competition over Germany and Switzerland in Erzinger, Germany yesterday.

This was Germany’s last trial before the selection of their Worlds Team takes place. Sandra Izabasa competed on bars, something that we have not seen in a long time.

A bit of work on it and Izbasa could become an AA gymnast again. Ana Porgras had the highest score at the event, a 15.300 on beam. Catalina Ponor did not compete with the Romanian team but as an individual, …

Tweet Another friendly competition will take place this weekend ahead of the World Championships in Tokyo next month. Germany will play host to a friendly competition with Romania and Switzerland in Erzingen on September 10th. This is both a MAG and WAG Competition.

Tweet The Romanian National Championships will be held in Onesti at the new Nadia Comaneci Sports Arena, August 26th – 28th. This will be a very exciting event, not only will we get to see where the Romanian girls are in terms of upgrades and standard but as previously posted, Juniors and Seniors from Great Britain will also compete at the event.

Tweet The roster for the Cottbus World Cup has been released today. View it here. The competition is scheduled for March 11th – 13th.

In WAG, Australias Larissa Miller and Ashleigh Brennan will compete. Elisabeth Seitz is named to compete for Germany as is Chuso. Jocelyn Hunt and Laura Edwards will compete on all 4 apparatus for Great Britain. Tweet The current Beam World Champion Ana Porgras received an Award of Excellence in Sports or “Premille de Excelenta” in Romanian from the television network TVR Interntional.  The award recognises personalities from Moldova and Romania in different industries such as sports, culture and business and recognises their talents and outstanding results in promoting Romania’s image in the world.

Fellow Romanian and former Olympic  and World Champion Andreea Raducan presented Ana with the award with coach Octavian Bellu present. I can’t see any pictures anywhere online but I’d love to see one. …

Highlights for me: Ana Porgras’ floor routine, just amazing. To return from a recent broken ankle to perform and tumble like that is just fantastic. Yuyan’s floor routine, so beautiful and dramatic. Excellent choreography and so good to see a gymnast move to the music and show off her personality through her dance. Bross & Mustafina on bars.
