In the early half of the last quad the gymnastics world was graced with the presence of the beautiful and elegant Ana Porgras. The Romanian gymnast, known mostly for her stunning beam work, packed in her gymnastics career at the start of 2012 after a tough World Championships in Tokyo, where she failed to qualify for the beam final, placing 16th and also 17th at the European Championships in Berlin.
At the 2008 Junior European Championships Porgras made herself known by winning gold on beam and again at the 2009 World Championships winning bronze on bars for Romania. She qualified in first place on beam at these WCh’s but placed seventh in the final. Even so, I will always admire her routine, so elegant and her mount was beautiful (despite the fall in the routine). Her luck continued through to 2010 when she won the title of World Beam Champion.
Porgras’ departure at the start of 2012 was a big blow to Romania yet Catalina Ponor filled that gap extremely well. She was one of the only gymnasts of the quad who could truley be known as “artistic”.
The 19 year old has recently taken part in a photoshoot and does not look anything like the Porgras we knew! I’m glad to see her looking healthy again, towards the end of her career she looked extremely thin and gaunt. Check the pictures out below.
