Tweet A great new article from BBC Sport’s Ollie Williams. At the weekend he posted this picture of the Chinese Women’s Coach “being grilled” by the media as to why the Chinese Women wouldn’t be bringing home any gold medals from Worlds, the first time this has happened since 2002. It’s easy to say, duh, Huang and Kexin fell from the bars in the Individual Apparatus Finals and almost handed Beth Tweddle the World title.
Ollie discusses how gymnastics in China is perceived, age falsification, China’s response on being beaten …

Tweet From the start Russia, USA and China were the favourites to medal, and that they did.
Gold: Russia 175.397
Silver: USA 175.196
Bronze: China 174.781
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to view it online or via the Red Button but those who could see the competition reported a lot of falls Mitchell, Cairns, Hibbert and Bonara to name (just) a few. Out of the 3 winning teams, they clocked up 6 falls between them, surprising after such clean routines in qualifiers. The British girls got off to a bad start and never seemed to …

Tweet I was doing some reading on nutrition this morning and came across this old link from the LA Times from 2008. You may have seen it before, I haven’t. In the below image the LA Times compares the height, weight, age of the 2008 Olympic USA and Chinese Women’s Teams. They wonder does the age requirement in Olympic Gymnastics give the young and mostly smaller Chinese gymnasts an advantage.
We could discuss the possibility that these “sixteen” year old’s are lying about their age but let’s leave that out …

Tweet This article appeared today on the Daily Mail UK website. It mainly features pictures of children training in gyms in China and reports on how the children are “contorted into the most uncomfortable positions.” Apparently Chinese officials have insisted that tough new eligibility rules will end the type of ‘age cheat’ scandal which resulted in Dong Fangxiao and the Sydney 2000 Chinese Team being tripped of their bronze medals.
Whilst perhaps the Chinese way of coaching may be tougher, it certainly does get results. If you read the comments below the short …

The Chinese officials have promised to enforce rigorous checks and processes to verify their gymnasts ages. These processes such as x-ray bone analyses have already come into action for the upcoming Youth Olympics in Singapore where the delegation have gone through stringent checks.
Two age scandals …
