Worlds Today 22/10/10 – Mens & Womens All Arounds – A Quick Round Up

Aliya Mustafina wins the Women’s All Around World Champion title for Russia. View the FIG Report or view the results here.

Highlights for me: Ana Porgras’ floor routine, just amazing. To return from a recent broken ankle to perform and tumble like that is just fantastic. Yuyan’s floor routine, so beautiful and dramatic. Excellent choreography and so good to see a gymnast move to the music and show off her personality through her dance. Bross & Mustafina on bars.

Two really memorable highlights for me were Rebecca Bross’ fall on beam for the most innovative way to attempt to save a fall. The second is Mustafina’s floor. It was just exquisite, she has the power that Porgras can lack sometimes, she also has her elegance and grace, she has excellent choreography like Yuyan, her double arabian was HUGE, her tumbles were smooth, her triple spin was flawless… a true pleasure to watch and as the saying goes “save the best til last” (although someone tell Kim Zmeskal that!)

Kohei Uchimura retains his World All Around Title. View the FIG Report or view the results here.

Gymnastics Examiner: On today’s competitions

Thanks to Gymnastike and International Gymnast Magazine who kept me going on Twitter when I was waiting for BBC3 to come on air at 7pm to broadcast the Women’s All Around Competition.
