The Couch Gymnast reported that The Shenzhen Universiade gymnastics competition will be lacking one of China’s most established stars, three time World Vault Champion Cheng Fei is injured again. This time she sustained a soft tissue injury to her knee, hopefully nothing too serious but it makes me wonder if she will be fit enough for Worlds and London 2012.
Imogen Cairns was the second gymnast to feature in Full Twists “Meet The Gymnast” series, looking at the British gymnasts who will potentially make up the Worlds 2011 and London 2012 Olympic Team. Imogen will compete with many British Juniors and Seniors in Onesti during the Romanian Nationals.
BBC broadcast a documentary film “The Gymnast” following British gymnasts Becky Downie, Beth Tweddle, Hannah Whelan, Laura Mitchell, Marissa King and Becky Wing in the run up to the 2008 Beijing Olympics. This was only shown in the UK but hopefully will make it’s way onto YouTube at some point.
Blythe Lawrence blogs for Universal Sports and thinks it is possible that France MAG team may medal at Worlds 2011 or London 2012
Other interesting tidbits:
Terrible scenes of looting and riot from London were broadcast over the world last week. Full Twist took a look at what this meant for the Olympic Games.
The Couch Gymnast asked readers for their World Team predictions
This time next year, the London 2012 Olympics will be all over and we’ll know who our new Olympic Champion is!
