There are a lot of discussions going on over on all of the gymnastics forums as to who will make each countries team for the 2012 Olympics. While some of the new seniors will be eligible to compete at the 2011 World Championships in Tokyo, some current Juniors will not but will be eligible to compete in London if they turn 16 within 2012.

Gymnastics fans from all over the World have been debating who will make the teams for World and the 2012 Olympics. Anne from Gymnastike has a great post showing which USA gymnasts are eligible for the 2012 Games. As Anne mentions, last week at the CoverGirl Classics we saw three members of the Beijing 2008 team compete, whilst Memmel and Sacramone were looking good, it was Johnson’s first competition since coming back from her ACL surgery. I’ll wait until VISA’s to make judgement on Johnson although I am aware she still only freshly back competing. Memmel and Sacramone were looking excellent, Sacramone is sure to make the team but there are so many others to choose from Wieber, Raisman, Bross, Sloan, Douglas, Maroney… but only five gymnasts will make the team for 2012. It looks like Marta will have a tough decision to make when choosing her team. Here is who Anne has listed:
Women’s Current USA Senior National team, Eligible for the 2012 Olympics:
Rebecca Bross, WOGA Gymnastics, Plano, TX
Mackenzie Caquatto, Legacy Elite Gymnastics LLC, Naperville, IL
Bridgette Caquatto, Legacy Elite Gymnastics LLC, Naperville, IL
Chelsea Davis, Texas Dreams Gymnastics Lakeway, TX (retired from elite)
Gabrielle Douglas, Chow’s Gymnastics and Dance Institute, Virginia Beach, VA
Ivana Hong, WOGA Gymnastics, Allen, TX (retired from elite)
Kytra Hunter, Hill’s Gymnastics, Frederick, MD
Amanda Jetter, Cincinnati Gymnastics, Milford, OH
Shawn Johnson, Chow’s Gymnastics and Dance Institute, West Des Moines, IA
Mattie Larson, All Olympia AOGC, Los Angeles, CA
McKayla Maroney, All Olympia AOGC, Laguna Niguel, CA
Alexandra Raisman, Brestyan’s American Gymnastics, Needham, MA
Alicia Sacramone, Brestyan’s American Gymnastics, Winchester, MA
Samantha Shapiro, All Olympia AOGC, Los Angeles, CA (retired from elite)
Bridget Sloan, Sharp’s Gymnastics Academy, Pittsboro, IN
Morgan Smith, Brandy Johnson’s Global Gymnastics, Clearmont, FL
Sabrina Vega, Dynamic Gymnastics, Carmel, NY
Cassandra Whitcomb, Legacy Gymnastics LLC, Lexington, KY (retired from elite)
Jordyn Wieber, Gedderts Twistars USA, DeWitt, MI
McKenzie Wofford, Zenith Elite Gymnastics Academy, McKinney, TX
Vanessa Zamarripa, UCLA, Los Angeles, CA
Current Junior Women’s National Team, Eligible for 2012 Olympic Team:
Kennedy Baker, Texas Dreams Gymnastics, Flower Mound, TX
Brenna Dowell, Great American Gymn. Express, Odessa, MO
Ericha Fassbender, Stars Gymnastics Training Center-Houston, Katy, TX
Sarah Finnegan, Great American Gymn. Express, St. Louis, MO
Keely McNeer, Gymsports America and Miss Kim’s Gymnastics, Jackson, MS
Elizabeth Price, Parkettes National Gymnastics Center, Coopersburg, PA
Kyla Ross, Gym-Max Gymnastics, Aliso Viejo, CA
Kyla Ross, McKenzie Wofford, Sabrina Vega, Amanda Jetter and the Caquatto’s all look very promising. If Gabrielle Douglas does nail her proposed Amanar then she’s sure to go far.
So with all of these new seniors and the juniors who will be eligible for the 2012 Olympic team, who do you think will make it? Leave a comment below.
First of all Kytra Hunter is retired from elite & you didn’t say that!
Here is my team:
Jordyn Wieber
Rebeca Bross
Alicia Sacromone
Shawn Johnson
Chellse Memmel
Althernates:
Aly Raisman

Hi Ashlee,
That is just who Anne had listed. That’s a pretty nice team alright, I think that would be my team too – depending on Shawn really.
Jordyn Wieber
Rebecca Bross
Alicia Sacramone
Alexandra Raisman
Chellsie Memmel
alt
Shawn Johnson
McKayla Maroney
Wieber is definitely looking like she will make the team as is Sacramone.
My team iS:
Alicia Sacramone
Jordyn Wieber
Rebecca Bross
Kyla Ross
Aly Raisman
Reserves:
Chellsie Memmel
Sabrina Vega
Mckayla Maroney
My team would consist of:
Jordyn Wieber
Rebecca Bross
Kyla Ross
Gabrielle Douglas
Alicia Sacramone/Alexandra Raisman
McKayla Maroney could easily make the team as well, as could Chellsie Memmel. I am really pulling for Alicia, but if there are 4 amanars on the team, vault isn’t a deciding factor anymore. Aly’s floor also has more difficulty thans Sacramone’s. I hope Shawn gets her skills and confidence back. Then, she could challenge for one of the 5 Olympic team spots.
Good choices all. 5 on a team, 3 compete on each piece and those 3 scores count…. tough call!
my team
Alicia Sacramone
Jordyn Wieber
Alexandra Raisman
Shawn Johnson
Mykayla Maroney
alternates
Chellsie Memmel
Rebecca Bross
Gabrielle Douglas
My Team:
Jordyn Wieber
