Tweet A couple of months ago some bloggers addressed the issue of widening the beam over at The Gymnastics Examiner. Many shared their opinions on whether this would be a good thing, bad thing or safe thing. I came across Coach Vladimir Zaglada’s opinion this week while reading his book “One Coaches Journey From East to West” and thought that it was very fitting and would share with you, the readers of Full Twist.
Coach Zaglada asks the reader to think about what would have to happen if a double salto …

I finished it very quickly in fact, within a couple of hours, not even a day. It’s been a very long time since I’ve had time to sit down and relax and enjoy a good book, and what a good book this was. It was so interesting to read The Karolyi’s backgrounds starting from Romania and when they moved to America.
I don’t want to …

Tweet I’ve always been fascinated with the scientific side of gymnastics, of most sports really. Studying subjects like Biomechanics, Sports Injuries, Anatomy & Physiology in college really spurred my interest on. I incorporate my knowledge into my coaching, educating the gymnasts whilst coaching them physically.
I love books like Gerald S George’s recent “Championships Gymnastics” and his 1980 book “Biomechanics of Women’s Gymnastics” and my current love Monem Jemni’s ”The Science of Gymnastics“. The Science of Gymnastics Journal often has some really great pieces that interest me, especially the current edition which has …

Since finishing Letters to a Young Gymnast, I have started reading “Little Girls in Pretty Boxes” by Joan Ryan. It is written about the “making and breaking of elite gymnasts and figure skaters”. So far it’s an ok read although I find myself skipping through the pages about the figure skaters as I’m not all that interested in that. I’m taking it all with a pinch of salt and not getting too caught up in the extremes some of the girls went to attempt to achieve their dreams.
Do you have …
