Tweet Coach Nick Ruddock has been newly appointed the position of Junior National Coach by British Gymnastics.  Nick previously coached in Notts Gym Club and has recently been working as a Performance Coach in the City of Manchester Institute of Gymnastics. It’s a great move for the young coach.

Tweet It was announced today that six summer Olympic Sports have been awarded extra funding by the UK Sport’s annual review ahead of  the London 2012 Games. The six sports are boxing, canoeing, gymnastics, hockey, rowing and taekwondo. Unfortunately for figure skating they have had all funding cut. Tweet Beth Tweddle today received the award for “fair play and inspiration” from the UK Sports Journalists Association. She had to settle in third place while World & European Heptathlon Champion Jessica Ennis received the award for UK Sportswoman of the year.
A great achievement although I still really feel that she should have at least been short listed for the BBC Sports personality of the Year award. Read more from British Gymnastics.

Tweet Great Britain’s Rhythmic Gymnast Francesca Jones has been selected to receive an Olympic Solidarity Athlete Scholarship by the IOC. The scholarship helps athletes in their ambition to compete for Team GB at the London 2012 Olympic Games. 4 athletes were chosen along with Francesca to receive the a scholarship; Martin Ward (boxing), Stevan Walton (shooting) and Peter Kirkbride (weightlifting). Each will receive financial support towards their training and preparation for Olympic participation for London 2012.

Tweet It’s a possibility. In this short interview Great Britain’s Imogen Cairns tells how she will take a short break from training and keep trying for 2012 but knows that the road ahead might be tough with new and up coming talent catching up on the current Team GB stars. She also spoke last month about 2012.

Tweet I recently posted about up and coming British Gymnasts Rebecca Tunney and Ellie Downie who are thought to be in the running to represent Great Britain as future Olympians. Norfolk Academy gymnast Bethany Harmer is too showing great potential at the age of 10.Bethany competed at the National Age Group Championships at the Guildford Spectrum in the Level 3 competition for her year group at the start of November.

Tweet Recently the British Olympic sports gave their verdicts for London 2012 to the media. Each Olympic sport has a Sports Performance Director who oversees the sports determination to win those Olympic medals that are up for grabs in each event.

Tweet Day one of the event took place today with the MAG and WAG Qualifiers. The Great British Team excelled and now has 12 gymnasts representing them in the finals tomorrow. The new World Floor Champion Lauren Mitchell made it through to 3 event finals.

Tweet As mentioned the Glasgow Grand Prix finals will be shown on Sky TV on Saturday, 20 November live on Sky Sports 3 and Sky Sports HD3 from 1:30pm-6: 30pm. British Gymnastics have announced on their Facebook page that BGtv will be screening highlights of the qualifications tomorrow during the event. The finals will also be broadcast on BGtv next week. That’s pretty sweet!!

Tweet The Glasgow Grand Prix will begin tomorrow in Kelvin Hall International Sports Arena. See here on Full Twist for the participants list or here. Training has just begun for the competition today. I’d really hoped to make it to Glasgow this year but things didn’t go my way! I’ll do the best I can to give updates from the competition.

Tweet Full Twist was contacted by a Gym Mom from the UK this week. She was delighted to see that Full Twist had highlighted the new and upcoming talent on the UK gymnastics scene. Recently we posted about British U12 Champion Ellie Downie, yesterday about Rebecca Tunney and last year about Catherine Lyons. All gymnasts hope to represent Great Britain in the near future at Olympic level and are showing great talent.
