The Stuttgart World Cup kicks off on Saturday. At this event, Philipp Boy is expected to make an announcement regarding his gymnastics future, he may retire. Following a nasty fall on high bar at last years Stuttgart World Cup he has been struggling to regain his confidence. That, combined with injuries throughout 2012 may indicate retirement.
This years competition is rather exciting with the addition of a team competition. A maximum number of 4 gymnasts per country can compete per team with 16 being the minimum age. It’s 3 up and 2 scores count so there is little room for error. There will only be one vault per gymnast.
Team Competition Schedule:
- November 30th: Team Qualification MAG & WAG
- December 1st: Team Finals MAG
- December 2nd: Team Finals WAG
The prize money on offer for both teams is:
- 1st: €3,000
- 2nd: €2,000
- 3rd: €1,500
- 4th: €1,000
The second and most exciting competition will be the World Cup event which will run as normal, taking place in the Porsche Arena in Stuttgart. This is a single All Around competition, meaning that there will be no qualification round. Participation is limited to 8 gymnasts in MAG and WAG and 1 Wild Card. A 2 per country rule applies.
All Around Schedule:
- December 1st: AA WAG
- December 2nd: AA MAG
Both prize money and World Cup points are on offer, although the Wild Card cannot take World Cup points.
