Sandra Izbasa reportedly suffers knee injury

The All Around tweeted  a link to a Romanian article which explains that 2008 Olympic Floor Champion Sandra Izbasa has sustained a knee injury that may take her out of contention for a place at the Olympic Games this summer. 3 news outlets, Pro Sport, Libertea and GSP report that Izbasa injured a ligament yesterday in training, possibly a collateral ligament in her left knee. GSP’s report seems the most concise, stating that it is thought to just be a “stretch” but that she will undergo an MRI to confirm a diagnosis.

There has not yet been any official confirmation of the knee injury from the Romanian Gymnastics Federation.  Ana Porgras announced her retirement last month so hopefully this will not be another major blow to the Romanians. Most recently, Izbasa had to withdraw from the World Championships due to a foot injury.

Prosport Update: Sandra Izbasa has a small lesion on her medial collateral ligament. Likely, she doesn’t need to wear a cast. But a decision will be made soon.
