Recently the British Olympic sports gave their verdicts for London 2012 to the media. Each Olympic sport has a Sports Performance Director who oversees the sports determination to win those Olympic medals that are up for grabs in each event.

Tim Jones the British Gymnastics Sports Performance Director says that he sees Sam Oldham  as the “one to watch” for 2012.

“Picking one to watch is tough but, if I’m being objective, then it’s Sam Oldham. He went to the Youth Olympic Games and won a gold medal, then came with us as the travelling reserve at the senior World Championships. Every other nation will be looking at him and saying that if Britain can do as well as they did without Sam, then there’s some special stuff to come.”

Sam competed for Great Britain in the Youth Olympic Games in August winning silver on the Pommel Horse and Gold on High Bar. View his Pommel routine below. Click through to Sam’s website to view his achievements to date.

British Gymnastics have really made their mark on the International Stage this year with 3 gymnasts winning medals at the World Championships in Rotterdam, a successful Commonwealth Games and wins at the recent Glasgow Grand Prix. Read more from Tim Jones in Ollie Williams article here.

**Update**

Sam has just been named as a contender for the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year 2010. Read more here.
