Romania announce Olympic Teams

The Romanian Olympic Committee (Comitetul Olimpic Si Sportiv din Romania) has named its full list of Olympic participants, including the Men’s and Womens Gymnastics teams. The Romanian Gymnastics Federation has not yet officially announced their squads, we can take it that these are likely to be the teams, give or take one person on each team perhaps.

One name which is not on the list, that sticks out like a sore thumb is three time Olympian Marian Dragulescu. His absence from the nominative squad has surprised many, myself included. Dragulescu has been under going intense physical therapy with a top physiotherapist since sustaining an injury at the 2011 World Championships where he qualified for the AA, Floor and Vault finals. I would have expected at this stage that he would be fit, despite not been seen in competition this year. At 31 perhaps his body has had enough? However, Stoica has given him a bit of time to prove himself fit and ready to compete at the Olympics so we still may see him compete in London.

  • Flavius Koczi
  • Ovidiu Buidoso
  • Marius Daniel Berbecar
  • Cristian Ioan Bataga
  • Vlad Bogdan Cotuna

The Women’s team is identical to the team that won gold at the European Championships in May. Catalina Ponor and Sandra Izbasa will compete in their second Olympics. All other gymnasts will compete in their first Olympics with Larisa Iordache tipped to make the All Around final.

  • Sandra Raluca Izbasa
  • Catalina Ponor
  • Raluca Oana Haidu
  • Diana Laura Bulimar
  • Larisa Andreea Iordache

These names have been added to our list of Confirmed London 2012 Olympic Teams and Gymnasts.
