It was an exciting day in the Park & Suites Arena in Montpellier yesterday. Yet again we had intermittent internet access, Daniel Purvis had three hours sleep and food poisoning and then competed – vaulting onto the lap of a judge, Epke Zonderland fell from the Horizontal Bar three times, Philipp Boy had a bad competition, Berki and Smith tied for first place on Pommel and Russia’s Denis Ablyazin performed an amazing floor routine with a 6.9 start value. There was so much to see yesterday.
On a personal note, I was proud to watch the Irish Team compete so well at the European Championships. Finishing 15th in the team competition was remarkable as well as Kieran Behan, Andrew Smith and Rohan Sebastian retaining positions in the top 15 on floor for so long. Kieran qualified to the floor final whilst Andrew placed just outside the reserve positions. Overall, the team placed third on floor, only to be beaten by Great Britain and Russia.
