Phan Thi Ha Thanh became the first Vietnamese gymnast to earn herself a place  to the London 2012 Olympics, stunning gymnastics fans worldwide by winning a bronze medal at the Vault event finals at the World Championships last week. Despite Vietnam not having a team to qualify for the London 2012 Olympics and Than competing alone without the support of a team, the rules state that all Individual Apparatus medalists qualify for the Olympics unless their countries have already qualified through the team competition (this is different for MAG).

Than told  has reporters that she hopes to win one or two individual medals in the London Olympics next year. It would be great to see different nations qualify and win medals, it would offer a nice sense of variety and excitement to the Games but is it possible with such strong vaulters such as Alicia Sacramone and McKayla Maroney likely to compete in London? In the All Around qualification, Than qualified 91st, earning scores of 14.366 on Vault, 10. 900 on Bars, 11.933 on Beam and 12.600 on Floor. She qualified in 8th place for the Vault final.  Best of luck to Than on her journey to London and beyond.
