Olivia Curran out of CWG

Poor Olivia Curran, only days before competing she has had to withdraw from the Commonwealth Games. Olivia tore her ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) whilst training on bars on Wednesday. What a pity. Olivia is obviously gutted, she deferred going to University to qualify for the Commonwealth Games, she tells the BBC;

“I’ve been doing gymnastics since I was three. I went to the Commonwealth Youth Games when I was 13 and that really opened my eyes to big competition,” she added.

“I’ve had four-year plan to get to these games. There have been plenty of people who have doubted me along the way, but they have only made me more determined.”

Isle of Man gymnast Joe Smith is also out due to a torn Achilles Tendon. Olivia will require surgery, hopefully Joe won’t.
