USAG gave an update yesterday into the injury of McKayla Maroney who sustained a mild concussion and minor nasal fracture on the second day of the VISA Championships following a missed landing during the warm ups prior to the final senior women’s session two weeks ago.
At the 2012 Visa Championships, McKayla Maroney suffered a minor nasal fracture and a mild concussion following a missed landing during the warm-ups prior to the final senior women’s session. Since then, Maroney, her parents and coach have been working closely with several physicians, including Dr. Larry Nassar, the U.S. Women’s National Team doctor. Maroney has returned to the gym and her progress is being closely monitored.
A quote from McKayla Maroney
“My doctors and coaches are working together to find the balance between recovery and my wanting to get back into the gym and prepare for the Olympic Trials. My family and I appreciate all of the well wishes and support from my fans, friends, and teammates.”
Many are wondering if Maroney has enough time to prepare for Olympic trials next week. It’s hard to know where she stands with an Olympic spot. Vault is her specialty yet Marta Karolyi has stated that wants any apparatus specialist to have at least two strong events on which they can contribute to the team final. Maroney’s vaults are fantastic yet she lacks what others have on other apparatus. Depending on how she is, this may be a good thing for Alicia Sacramone as explained by The Couch Gymnast’s latest post on Sacramone.
