Lauren Mitchell on VISA Sponsorship

Last month we told you that Australia’s Lauren Mitchell has been selected by the credit card company VISA as one of their London 2012 Ambassadors for their “Go World” campaign.

It seems that the sponsorship deal will really help Lauren achieve her goal of an Olympic gold medal. In an article in the Sydney Morning Herald, Lauren who has had to rely on government funding for sometime, explains just how so:

“It takes off some of the pressure.

I can focus on my gym and then studies and then finding some space in between to relax as well and not really having to worry about working, that’s been a great help to me.

It’s (the study) a bit of a distraction, which is what you need sometimes when away.

It’s just that outside influence that you need to stop you going crazy just thinking about gym.

You’ve just got to prioritise things – obviously it’s training first and my uni and then social life third.”

Lauren is also studying for a Biomedical Science degree, impressive!

Many gymnasts rely on sponsorship deals and funding, the likes of Kieran Behan from Ireland has been helped in recent months by his sponsorship deal with Stoi Athletic Wear.
