The Japanese 51st NHK Cup competition took place on Thursday and Friday at the Yoyogi National Gymnasium, which was the final trial to determine the London 2012 Olympic Team. Scores from this competition were taken into account as well as the Japanese Nationals which were held some weeks ago.
The team consists of three former Olympians, from 2008, Yu Minobe, Koko Tsurumi and Yuko Shintake. I am delighted that the beautiful Rie Tanaka has made the cut. She placed top in the competition. The Japanese used a scoring system whereby the gymnasts compete on each apparatus over 2 days and depending on their placing on each apparatus they are awarded points, obviously placing first awards top points. The London 2012 Olympic Team is as follows:
- Rie Tanaka
- Koko Tsurumi
- Asuka Teramoto
- Yu Minobe
- Yuko Shintake
