Irish FIG National All Around Championships 2012


Gymnastics Ireland’s top FIG level gymnasts will compete this weekend at the 2012 FIG National All Around Championships taking place in Janz Gymnastics Club, Sandyford, Co. Dublin. In the Senior competition 11 gymnasts will compete with only 9 competing for the National All Around Champion title. Those competing are as follows:

  • Sophie McCoo (Abbey)
  • Sarah Buckley (Douglas)
  • Emma Lunn (Excel)
  • Daire De Hora (Janz)
  • Daragh Matthews (Muckross)
  • Hayley Moore (Nadia)
  • Beth Gilmor (Old Bawn)
  • Ali Kavanagh (Old Bawn)
  • Ciara Nixon (Old Bawn)
  • Julie Sadlier (Old Bawn) – competing as Guest
  • Sorcha White Barrett (Old Bawn) – competing as Guest

Last years Senior competition was small and was  won by Niamh Rana with Charlotte Knab in second place. Below is Senior Emma Lunn with British gymnast Louis Smith at the relaunch of Gymnastics Ireland in November 2011.

There is also a FIG Junior and Minor competition happening on Sunday. Most of the gymnasts listed above competing in this years Senior competition were Juniors at the 2011 FIG AA Championships. This competition was won by Sarah Strawbridge of Salto Gymnastics Club, with Emma Lunn of Excel in 2nd and Sarah Buckley in 3rd. Five girls will compete in the Junior competition with 2 competing as guests.

The Minor competition will be a rather big battle as 12 gymnasts compete for the AA title, however only 10 will actually be in contention for medals. These gymnasts aspire to be the top Irish WAG in years to come with many already showing huge potential.

  • Casey Bell (Salto)
  • Kyla Mullen (Salto)
  • Ciara Murphy (Excel) – competing as Guest
  • Roisin Curran  (Renmore) – competing as Guest

Last years minor competition was won by Salto’s Casey Bell, who won by a high 5 mark margin. Other gymnasts from around the country will compete alongside the FIG gymnasts as this is also the National AA Finals for the Level 7 – 10 All Around competition. Gymnasts from every corner of the country will compete for the coveted title in their age group and level.
