Ireland names gymnasts for Worlds 2011

Irish Gymnastics today named the gymnasts who will represent Ireland at the 2011 World Championships in Tokyo.

Rohan Sebastian, Kieran Behan and Luke Carson. Kieran Behan from Tolworth Gymnastics Club made himself well known on the European Circuit last year by placing 8th on floor, just missing out on qualifying for the final. Luke was injured back in March and April and couldn’t compete in the Cottbus Cup or in the European Championships, hopefully he will be ok for Worlds. Luke competed in the Commonwealth Games last year and was an All Around Finalist. Luke also compete at the 2010 Worlds in Rotterdam. 20 year old University of Michigan gymnast Rohan Sebastian last competed for Ireland at the 2009 World Championships in London, missing the 2010 European Championships due to the volcanic ash. International Gymnast interviewed Rohan in March this year.

Charlotte McKenna and Sophie McCoo. Sophie trains in Abbey Gymnastics Club in Northern Ireland. She is currently the F.I.G. Senior Northern Irish Champion on Floor, Vault and Beam and AA. At aged 15, Sophie is currently the youngest Senior in Ireland. Head Coach of Abbey Gymnastics,Alison McMullan will travel to Tokyo with Sophie. We’ve met Charlotte McKenna before, representing Northern Ireland at the Commonwealth Games last year and again competing in Worlds in Rotterdam.
