Interview: Valentina Rodionenko

Valentina Rodionenko

The Voice of Russia has an interesting interview with Valentina Rodionenko. She states that as soon as the Russians left London following their very successful Olympic Games where they won 1 gold, 3 silver and 4 bronze medals they began gearing up for Rio 2016 and in the short term the University Games, the 2013 Europeans on home ground and the 2013 World Championships.

Plans are in the works to discover the new talent that will help form the 2016 Olympic Team for Rio.

She also discusses changes to the Code of Points, for the most part she is happy with them but  states that the Russian Gymnastics Federation will be writing to the FIG in regards to the artistry changes on floor asking them to change. A massive 2.50 in deductions is available for artistry in the proposed 2013 – 2016 Code of Points.

Floor exercises will undergo drastic changes because of the new requirements. You see, the judges have different understanding what artistry is about. FIG technical committee insists artistry is a nicely performed acrobatics with nailed landings. We think that graceful movements, pointed toes even girl’s beautiful smile have more in common with artistry than acrobatic connections. Soon, our national federation will write an official letter to the FIG where we will try to convince them to change these new rules.
