Great Britain & Ireland MAG Teams – Subdivision 3

The Men’s teams from Ireland and Great Britain will compete today in Subdivision 3 at 1.30pm. The British Team of Sam Hunter, Louis Smith, Daniel Purvis and Kristian Thomas and the Irish Team of Luke Carson, Kieran Behan and Anthony O’Donnell will compete against teams from Canada, Greece, Qatar and gymnasts from Thailand.

According to Tom Dillon (Head of the Irish Delegation), the team performed well in podium training.

They had a few areas that will be ironed out by competition. Team now focused on last few days training in preparation for competition on Monday. Rings looking very strong for all three gymnasts. Vaults were also very clean. Despite much international criticism of the spring-boards, Ireland have adapted to the spring-boards with no fuss. High-bar as always favouring the brave, the lights have caused more than a few falls in earlier sub-divisions with the light above high-bar being switched off this evening for last sub-division.

The British boys prime aim  is to make the top 24 Teams and so proceed further to the second round of the Olympic Qualifications, in Tokyo at the 2011 World Championships, with ambitions also present to make the Team Final ( top 8 ) in Rotterdam. Kristian Thomas insists that April’s European Championships where the British Team bagged the silver and was just a dress rehearsal for the Championships in Rotterdam. Meanwhile Louis Smith is hoping to completely forget a stressful World Championships in London last year. Louis has chosen to use the same routine as last year despite it costing him a medal.

Best of luck to both teams!
