Issued today by the FIG via email:

Dear Iordan,

I am addressing you not just as a gymnast, nor just as President of the Bulgarian Gymnastics Federation, but as my friend.

Along with the rest of the international gymnastics community, I have just learned of your decision to bring an end to your career as an athlete.

The fact that you have opted to bow out while still at the pinnacle of your sport – having graced yet another Olympic finals at London 2012 – is a mark of your character.

While you may be bidding farewell to the arena, you will leave behind you an indelible mark.

Your legacy will be that of a man who has always been fair, honest, gifted and committed to a set of sporting ideals and values that you displayed at the highest competitive level over the course of six Olympic Games. You set an example that is certain to inspire generations to come.

Iordan, I salute you. I would like to express my admiration for you and my pride at being able to count you among those gymnasts who have truly brought honour to our Federation.

Finally, as FIG President, I would like to express my thanks to you, and those who have supported you, for all that you have given us during what has been a monumental career, and for the sacrifices that it has required.

 With my deepest friendship,

Prof. Bruno GRANDI, President.

ha ha – that’s exactly what I thought. I’d imagine she has maybe not notified the FIG of her retirement yet?
