The second session of today’s Glasgow World Cup off kicks off with the womens competition. The line up included Germany’s Elisabeth Seitz, Great Britain’s Hannah Whelan and Jennifer Pinches, the stunning Jessica Lopez, Romania’s Elena Amelia Racea and Raluca Haidu and two gymnasts I am not so familiar with Switzerlands Giulia Steingruber and from Vasiliki Millousi, Greece.
Women’s podium training began at 16.30 (British time) and will continue to 17.45. The girls all look great. We had a short chat with Jessica Lopez’ coach Nilson Medeiros Savage before training began, he feels it will be a good day. He was disappointed to hear that Boy had fallen on his vault but we both agreed that Martinez is an excellent gymnast. Here’s a quick shot from warm up via iPhone, again proper photos and videos will be uploaded after the competition. So please keep tuned to Full Twist over the next few days.
Jessica Lopez is just stunning in person, I never would have thought that she was 25. She wears a bright green sparkly leotard. The rest of the girls are of a young age, Pinches 16, Whelan 18, Seitz, Racea, 17, Haidu 16. Pinches is wearing some rather fetching pink leg warmers. Steingruber is wearing a fantastic blue leotard, both her and Lopez are on bars, they’re just grabbing my attention with their leotards alone. Pinches and Whelan are warming up on beam, while the Romanian’s are on floor. Seitz and Milousi have just joined the group at bars now.
Beth Tweddle has come back into the arena after several appearances out in front of the crowd. She crosses the competition floor chatting to people as she goes. She seems truly lovely, we had a short little chat earlier before talking to Louis Smith who admits that he is exhausted from last weeks European Championships. Beth appears to be doing yet another interview in front of the camera. Eileen Langsley is also around.
Tweddle stands at the corner of the floor encouraging Hannah Whelan, lovely to see. Purvis, Keatings and Smith are behind me watching the girls. Purvis has had a lot of press to do since winning the Men’s competition earlier, he must be exhausted. All of the British boys are sitting together, ready to cheer the girls on. Dan Purvis is still being asked for autographs, I imagine with Beth and Dan sitting nearby during this session that I’ll be sharing my seat with many a little girl asking for autographs!
The girls are just about finished warm up, it’s just the Romanian girls left on vault.
