FIG introduces the “spidercam”

At the weekend, Gymnastics Coaching  posted about the flying camera that will be used at Worlds. Today FIG has posted an article on their website today about the “spidercam”, a remote controlled silent camera system, suspended by 4 Kevlar ropes which will be used for the first time in Rotterdam for Worlds with the hope of bringing “thrilling images from exciting new angles to the television audience”. Pretty cool eh?

The camera has been used at other sporting events such as the World Cup 2010 and was given the green light for use by FIG Technical Committee Presidents Adrian Stoica and Nellie Kim, as well as the FIG Secretary General André Gueisbuhler and the FIG Television Manager Olivier Strebel. Full Twist can’t wait to see footage using the new camera.
