European Youth Olympic Festival 2011


One of the next big gymnastics events in July will be the European Youth Olympic Festival in Trazbon, Turkey, July 24th – 29th. Turkey plays host to the 11th festival, more than 170 gymnasts from 38 European countries will have a chance to experience their first competition under the Olympic spirit in the Yomra Gymnastics Hall.

In the WAG competition those who are born in 1996 or 1997 are eligible to compete, likewise in the MAG competition those who are born in 1995 or 1995 can compete. Each country may send a maximum of six gymnasts to compete, 3 MAG and 3 WAG. 54 medals will be up for grabs for the gymnasts and GymNova will be supplying the competition apparatus.






Last week, Ireland named their gymnasts who will be competing as Adam Dalton, India McPeak and Sarah Strawbridge. Romania have entered Larissa IordacheMaria Balea and Georgiana Gheorghe (WAG), Andrei Groza, Daniel Radeanu and Alexandru Avram or Andrei Savu (MAG). The EYOF highlight will be the meeting of Russia’s Anastasia Grishina and Anastasia Sidorova and Romania’s Iordache who are all looking to be the countries next gymnastics super stars. Sidorova will compete if her wrist injury has healed. 2 years ago in 2009, the EYOF we saw Romania’s Amelia Racea and Russia’s Viktoria Komova emerge as future talent. The two dominated the competition winning many medals between them. Great Britain will send Abi Caig, Gabrielle Jupp and Angel Romaeo (WAG) and Frank Baines, Anthony Wise (MAG).  Gabrielle Jupp came second All Around in the WAG British Championships last weekend with Abi Caig in third place. Both also placed well in the event finals.

  • Sunday24th July: MAG Official podium training
  • Monday 25th July: WAG Official podium training
  • Tuesday 26th July: Men´s qualification (all-around and apparatus finals) & Team Final
  • Wednesday 27th July: Women´s qualification (all-around and apparatus finals) & Team Final
  • Thursday 28th July: MAG & WAG  All-around final
  • Friday29th July: MAG & WAG Apparatus finals
