Daniel Keatings opens new outdoor gym in UK

This week Great British gymnast Daniel Keatings opened a new outdoor gym in the UK.  The “adiZone” or outdoor gym in Verulamium Park includes a basketball, football and tennis area, a climbing wall and a freestyle area to encourage dance, aerobics, martial arts and gymnastics. You may have seen similar type of images on Gymnastics Coaching recently from Rick’s travels. These sort of structures are often said to be found in China or Japan where governments use them to scout for possible future talent at a young age. If you’ve seen or heard of this, please leave a comment.

This brand new outdoor gym, branded by adidas and installed by The Great Outdoor Gym Company, is bringing a little piece of  the London 2012 Games to St Albans. It is designed to inspire local people to take part in more physical activity by encouraging them to play a variety of sports from football to basketball on the multi-games area and try the easy-to-use resistance gym equipment. This area is open all year round come rain or shine so a walk or jog in the park can be simply followed by some toning activity to provide you with a whole body workout, at any time of the day, free of charge.

I think it’s excellent, a really great idea. I’d love to see more playgrounds featuring these facilities.Wow, I’d even love to see one in my own back garden! I love how Adidas and The Great Outdoor Gym Company have gotten involved with the project. Encouraging children’s fitness and development is something I feel strongly, make it fun, make it interesting and more kids are likely to participate!
