Tweet The Japanese have announced the gymnasts who will represent the country in the 2011 World Gymnastics Championships in October. The NHK Cup took place this weekend which served as the second qualifying event which served as team trials for the World Championships. As predicted Kohei Uchimura and Koko Tsurumi, the current National Champions secured their third consecutive titles at the NHK Cup and also, a place on the National Team for Worlds.

Tweet Since the venue has finally been confirmed for the 2011 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, the tickets will go on sale tomorrow, July 11th. They will be available from 10am Japanese time which is 2am Dublin / London time and 9pm New York time (10th June).

Tweet The prototype for London 2012 Olympic Torch has today been revealed.
The piece which has been designed by London designers Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby will be a three sided golden cone with the flame burning through its perforated shell. It will stand at 800mm in height and weigh just 800g.

Tweet There’s a great new article on the BBC Sport website as part of the World Olympic Dreams series on Shawn Johnson. It follows Shawn at the Nike HQ in Portland, Oregon. There is an accompanying video which I just love, it shows Shawn inside the Nike laboratory doing moves and covered in body movement receptors. She looks like she is in fantastic shape. Tweet The Street Performance World Championships will once again come to Ireland this month. Lots of street performers will descend on Dublin, Cork and Portlaoise to show off their talents. Like last years event, all shows will be free.

Tweet One of my favourite tools to use in the gym with my gymnasts are resistance bands. If you’ve not heard of them before, these bands are stretchy elastic resistance bands which are used to flexibility and strength. The bands are most commonly used in rehabilitation after injury by Physical Therapists. As John Howard points out;

Rhythmic Gymnastics European Championships 2011
As thought, the Russian rhythmic star Evgenia Kanaeva shone at the Euro’s, winning 2 gold medals and a silver in the Individual Apparatus and a team gold medal with team mates Daria Kondakova and Daria Dmitrieva. Tweet This weekend sees the European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships taking place in Minsk and the second FIG Trampoline Gymnastics and Tumbling World Cup of 2011 which will be held in St. Petersburg.
33 nations will participate in the senior category and 23 with junior groups in the European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships. This is an increase on participation in the 2009 European Championships. All eyes will be on Russia’s star rhythmic gymnast, the 2010 European and World Champion Evgenia Kanaeva.
