All you need to know: Cottbus Cup 2013

The annual Cottbus Cup competition takes place this weekend in Germany. The Turnier der Meister was first held in 1973 in Schwerin. Since 1979, the German Gymnastics Federation (DTB) has been hosting the tournament annually in Cottbus.

There is quite an exciting line up. Unfortunately the Romanian girls have withdrawn from competition and there will be no British gymnasts present as the event clashes with the British Championships, which means the door is open for other gymnast to get their feet on the podium. Notable names are Lisa Ecker (Austria), Maegan Chant (CAN), Huidan Huang (CHN), Filip Ude (CRO), Maria Paula Vargas, Roxana Popa, Silvia Colussi Pelaez (ESP), Matthias Fahrig, Andreas Toba, Sebastian Krimmer, Sophie Scheder (GER),Eleftherios Kosmidis, Eleftherios Petrounias, Vasiliki Millousi (GRE),  Angel Wong (HKG), Matteo Morandi, Alberto Busnari (ITA), Alexander Shatilov (ISR), Jeffrey Wammes (NED), Tommy Ramos (PUR), Anastasia Grishina, Evgenia Shelgunova, Anna Dementyeva, Nikita Ignatyev (RUS), Saso Bertoncelj (SLO), Jake Dalton, Chris Brooks (USA), Oksana Chusovitina (UZB) and Jessica Lopez (VEN). The USA Women’s European tour team will not be at Cottbus but will be at the City of Jesolo competition in Italy.

A special mention of course for the gymnasts competing from Ireland –  Anthony O’Donnell, Chris O’Connor, Emma Lunn and India McPeak.
