2010 a successful year for British Gymnastics


In Daniel Keatings latest blog post, he reflects on the past year for British Gymnastics and looks forward to 2011. BG has had a very successful year in competition.

15 medals at the European Championships including:

  • Daniel Keatings – Gold Pommel Horse
  • Louis Smith – Silver Pommel Horse
  • Beth Tweddle – Gold on both Uneven Bars and Floor
  • Daniel Purvis  – Bronze Floor
  • Women’s Silver Team Medal
  • Men’s Silver Team Medal

24 Medals at the Commonwealth Games

  • Luke Folwell – Gold All Around & Vault, Silver Parallel Bars & Rings
  • Imogen Cairns – Gold Floor & Vault
  • Reiss Beckford – Silver All Around & Floor
  • Max Whitlock – Silver Pommel Horse & Bronze High Bar
  • Men’s Team Silver
  • Women’s Team Silver

Youth Olympics Games 2010

  • Sam Oldham – Gold High Bar & Silver Pommel Horse

World Championships 2010

  • Both Men’s & Women’s teams competed in the finals for the first time
  • Beth Tweddle – Gold on Bars
  • Louis Smith – Silver on Pommel Horse
  • Daniel Purvis – Bronze on Floor

Despite being out injured, Keatings was awarded with the Northampshire Sports Personality of the Year award for 2010 in early November.  Sam Oldham is a contender for the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year. Unfortunately Beth Tweddle was not nominated but was also nominated in for The Times Sports Woman of the tear award.

2011 can only mean bigger and better things for Great Britain! Daniel is back to training on all 6 pieces so lets hope he’s back on top form for 2011.
