Two days ago USA Gymnastics released a statement confirming that two time Olympic medalist McKayla Maroney was injured on the second night of the Kellogs and suffered a fractured tibia. Last night Maroney tweeted a picture of herself with the caption “I’m ALIVE!!!!” following surgery to repair her injury. Maroney seemed more than happy with the outcome of her surgery, being told it was a success.
‘I’M ALIVE!!!! hahaha just kidding..(; I just woke up from my surgery a little bit ago and was told it was successful!!’
The New York Daily News (Associated Press) reports that the gymnast has had two screws inserted into her leg to repair the fractured tibia. It is presumed that she will still continue to wear a brace or immobilizer until the leg is ready to carry weight.
How she can look so good after surgery, I do not know!
