Scottish Gymnast Adam Cox withdraws from CWG

Scottish Gymnast Adam Cox has withdrawn from the upcoming Commonwealth Games, but not due to the current safety concerns. Head Coach Tan Jai En has been sacked by Scottish Gymnastics. This is very unfair to the gymnasts so close to the CWG’s. Adam discusses his complete shock in an article with the BBC here.

Scottish Gymnastics released the following Press Release today:

22 September 2010 at 16.20

Scottish Gymnastics has recently conducted a corporate review and restructure as part of its continuing focus on improving the governance and professionalisation of the organisation.  The review identified a number of areas where improvements could be made to the existing structure impacting on existing posts and supporting the creation of a number of new posts. Scottish Gymnastics is currently implementing the recommendations of the review in full consultation with staff.

Changes to the structure of the performance set up were critical in supporting the development of the sport in the drive to deliver success at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014.  Scottish Gymnastics is fully aware that the timing of this restructure is not ideal so close to Delhi, however,
appropriate legal and HR advice was sought and a delay in implementation was not feasible and would have been unfair to other staff who are affected.

Scottish Gymnastics did not take this decision lightly and is doing everything possible to minimise the impact on athlete preparations for the Commonwealth Games in Delhi and the Northern European Championships later this year.  City of Glasgow Head Coach and Olympic bronze medallist Marius Gherman, who is also Ryan McKee’s personal coach, has been released by Glasgow Life and will now travel with the team to Delhi as coach to the men’s artistic gymnasts.  Scottish Gymnastics are very grateful for the cooperation of Glasgow Life.
