Rewriting Russian Gymnastics Blog breaks the news – Russian WAG Head Coach Alexander Alexandrov has been dismissed from his position. Apparently, the decision was made by a vote of the board of the Russian Gymnastics Federation, including some of the coaches of gymnasts who performed poorly at the London Olympic Games.
International Gymnast reports that Alexandrov claims that Russian Gymnastics Federation Vice President Andrei Rodionenko is said to have manipulated the vote to fire him:
“The decision was not the federation’s, but came from Andrei and Valentina Rodionenko,” he said. “They gathered coaches who they could control. And we didn’t have any freedom for each person to sit and say what he thinks, because he will be punished. All the others were just sitting there silent.”
The 60 year old is said to be replaced by the National Bar Coach Evgeny Grebenkin.
This is massive news to rock the Russian camp. I would imagine many countries will be wanting to snap him up as a Head Coach.

Wow!!!! I think this action was a bit juristic. There was no reason to fire the man; he is a fabulous, awesome coach. Regardless of who was coach Russia heading into the 2012 games NO ONE was beating the United Sates Women. They went into the 2012 games has heavy favorites and did not let anyone or anything deter them from the goal, including Jordyn Wieber not advancing to the AA final. Which is complete BS, in my eyes, but that’s a completely different topic. What he did on the final rotation “floor” was what any coach with a smart mind would have done. Rested Victoria and let Anastasia go in her place, then if anyone watched the live feed she wasn’t the only gymnast to bomb on floor for Russia. Kseniia flipped right on her face and rolled to her side. If Victoria would have gone on floor they would have risked her not being ready or too tired for the AA. They claimed two medals in the AA which a huge success for Russia. Do they plan on doing the same thing to the new head coach if Russia doesn’t claim the AA gold at the 2013 worlds? I truly don’t see them claiming that prize with USA on this Gold rush. USA has way too many more gymnasts that are gearing up and aren’t relied on to carry the team like Victoria and Aliya are. Then they have the fab 05 wanting to compete at the 2013 worlds. I think the bottom line is Andrrei and Valentina are wrong and they will reap what they sew. By the way Andrrei and Valentina, Aliya, Keseniia & Victoria’s medals were all claimed under the watchful all of the coach you fired. Best of luck Alexandrov other opportunities are out there including in the United States
