Now that the USA Nationals are over, the Men’s World team decided and the Women’s World Selection Training Camp participants announced, the gymnastics world has moved on to the next big interesting thing. Lets head to over 5000 miles away across the world to …Russia.
It’s all go in the Russian Camp at the moment… from Grishina to Komova to Nabieva. Instead of rehashing out the information from other blogs and websites and claiming it as our own, we’ll link and give the credit where it’s due. The Couch Gymnast has been following Russia carefully:
Aliya Mustafina and Ksenia Afanaseyva were given a by to the World Championships based on their excellent performances at the University Games.
After a stellar performance at the Russian Cup, Tatiana Nabieva has also secured her place for Antwerp. The comeback Queen took 3 out of four possible golds in the Event finals as well as winning the Team and All Around gold.
Viktoria Komova’s presence at Worlds is in doubt as her reported stomach bug has now spiralled into Viral Meningitis.
Anastasia Grishina is unlikely to be at Worlds to due a conflict with coaches. Grishina reportedly claimed that she was suffering from back pain before the Russian Cup, which disappointed the coaches, leading them to believe that she had not earned the right to go to Antwerp.
