Yup that’s right Ms. Liukin is making a comeback, it’s official! … about time she confirmed. Good for her.
The father and daughter team don’t plan on compete All Around but will focus on bars and beam. Liukin told Inside Gymnastics:
“Trainings been going well, just basically taking things a day at a time,” Liukin says. “I’ve been trying to go out of my way to train here [in Tokyo]. It’s been hard. I have to be here for every single session as the FIG Athlete Representative, so it makes it a little bit difficult with my schedule. I’m definitely going to go out of my way to find time to train, if it’s waking up at 5 a.m. just to go for a run or driving an hour to get to the gymnastics gym. I’m the kind of person that doesn’t want to have any regrets.”
Marta Karolyi also shared her delight of Liukin’s comeback:
“I love Nastia as a person and I love Nastia as a gymnast. She is pushing a little bit at the end but it still will be sufficient time if from this very moment [if] she gets 100% serious to get in the same regimen – [the same] regiment at training [that] she did before the Olympic Games. That means twice a day at the gym, spending about 7 or 8 hours in the gym…Everything’s possible.”
Nastia will tweet live from the USAG Twitter account during the WAG All Around final. I really like her in the video below, perhaps I will grow to love Nastia once again.
