London 2012 Olympian Kieran Behan is giving back to the gymnastics world. Kieran and Gymnastics Ireland Junior National MAG coach Geoff Rellis have begun a new venture, GK Gymnastics. Based in Surrey, United Kingdom, the two Irish gymnasts have begun offering gymnastics classes to children in the area.
Between the two coaches, they have a wealth of gymnastics experience and knowledge. Not only this, both gymnasts know what it’s like to reach rock bottom in their gymnastics career. Kieran’s story is familiar to everyone, wheelchair bound and told he’d never walk again yet still competed at the London 2012 Olympic Games. In 2010 Rellis suffered a fracture and dislocated vertebrae in his neck following a freak landing accident while training vault. The serious injury required surgery and Geoff was told he would be unable to do gymnastics again. Despite this, he bounced back, training and competing again. Read more about his story here.
Geoff told Full Twist:
Setting up a gymnastics club has always been a dream of both mine and Kieran’s for many years. As a way of using and passing on all of the gymnastics knowledge we have both learned over the years. We feel teaming up was a great idea to get our exciting project off the ground!
While the gymnastics club gets off the ground, GK Gymnastics are currently offering one class a week, on Wednesday’s from 4pm – 5pm for children aged 5 – 12 years. There is currently a waiting list in place for new classes which will be starting in the coming weeks, details of classes will be released on GK’s Facebook and Twitter pages. GK Gymnastics offers fun, safe & inspirational gymnastics classes for children of all abilities under the guidance of with the two successful and experienced gymnasts.
