Gymnastics Australia has appointed it’s new Chief Executive Officer, Mark Rendell, the former CEO of the Football Federation Victoria has taken up the role. In the new role Rendell will focus heavily on the journey towards the 2016 Olympics as well as increasing participation in gymnastics from the grassroots.
Many will be wondering how this will work, a former Football CEO appointed as a new Gymnastics CEO but Rendell believes his experience in sport with help him through this role:
“Gymnastics is a truly unique sport which contributes at every level of the sport and recreation spectrum. I’m very much looking forward to working closely with clubs and the state and territory associations particularly at such an exciting time for sport within Australia at both a grassroots and High Performance level.”
“I have worked for many years in sport, both at a state and national level, including the 2006 Commonwealth Games. I’ll look to draw on this range of experience to increase participation in gymnastics programs and strengthen pathways for international success. We want every Australian involved in gymnastics and every gymnast to have the very best chance to succeed on the world stage and ultimately make gymnastics a sport accessible to all Australians,” .
