John Geddert, Coach to World Champion Jordyn Wieber continues to blog about the Olympic Trials. Here is an excerpt from day 2:
Conversations with Martha during the training sessions are always interesting. She is a woman with so much gymnastics knowledge and instinctual awareness that it is tough to describe. Her impact on USA gymnastics is the single most significant influence our sport has seen. And we are on the same page with many of our thoughts and strategies.
She pointed out this a.m. that Jordyn looked great BUT in her opinion needed to shorten her “preparation time”. She wanted to see the diamond routines sooner in the training session. The thought being it is the first routines that count the most, and there is a need to be able to be solid regardless of the amount of warm up time. This was a point well made.
Contrary to popular belief and internet banter, Martha is always concerned about the individual needs of the athletes.
