Charlotte McKenna who has in the past competed for both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland has called it a day. The gymnast who has competed at Worlds, Europeans, Northern Europeans and Commonwealth Games has retired from gymnastics. Charlotte was disappointed not to make it to the London 2012 Test Event or receiving a Wild Card for the 2012 Olympic Games like her Irish MAG team mate Kieran Behan.

She tells the Helions Bumpstead:

“I didn’t get a wildcard for the Olympics and I’ve done all the biggest competitions there are, so I didn’t feel the need to do more training for two years just to do all the competitions I’ve already done.”

“I gave my life up to do it really”

“It’s been part of my life for so long, but I think there’s also the fact that I’ve been there and done it now and I have experienced everything I could have done and it’s time for something new, and if I can teach someone else that would be good.”
