Reports have surfaced which indicate that Bulgaria’s National Rhythmic Gymnastics Coach Iliana Raeva is set to inform the Bulgarian Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation about her resignation. The Bulgarian group finished 6th in this summers Olympics, meanwhile Silviya Miteva placed 8th in the AA final after qualifying in 4th place. Raeva states that despite not winning any medals she is happy with Bulgaria’s performance at the Olympic Games and cites that this is not her reason for leaving her position. She will reportedly suggested Ina Ananieva as her replacement, who has been working as Raeva’s assistant. The former gymnast was appointed to the position of National Rhythmic Coach back in 2008.

In the past, Raeva dominated Rhythmic gymnastics in Bulgaria, competing for her country between 1978 and 1982. She won four World Championship titles in 1982 – silver in AA, Hoop and Ribbon and bronze in Rope. She also holds 11 European Championship medals between 1980 and 1982.
