Amanar – the toughest vault

wieber vault

The New York times has a fantastic explanation of the Amanar vault. Shannon Miller, Jordyn Wieber and Coach John Geddert explain an Amanar with the use of video. You cannot miss the article and video. The footage is broken down into:

  • Round Off Entry
  • Push off the table
  • Two and a half twists
  • Blind landing

Thank you Sabine for the link – very much appreciated.

Just a thought, though the Amanar is quite a difficult vault, its D score is being reduced to a 6.3 in the 2013-2016 COP whilst the Cheng is a 6.4 and the prudonova is a 7.1. Not the mention the TTY that Nabieva trained and the Hong twins trained as well as Sacramones would be handspring double front. (even though never done in major competition). So its not quite the toughest vault :)

  2. aaron ellis says:

@ Rien why is it you’re always on here putting something down especially when it has something featuring the USA. No one asked you or what the code of points/COP will be judging this vault at in 2013-2016. As of right now when this is and was posted it is a 6.5 D score the highest scoring vault being done including the Cheng Fei vault. Not the 6.3 you’re barking off at the mouth at. Then the Prudonova which gymnast is throwing this vault? That vault hasn’t been performed and landed since she last did it. So why are you even bringing that vault up. If you’d re-read what they are talking about in the article it’s stating that the Amanar is the hardest vault being done (current and present), NOT what the hardest vault there is or what will be in the future. For all we know Maroney may be pulling a triple off in the future and then it changes yet again. I’m starting to think you’re very bias and if it had featured Aliya Mustafina or Victoria Komova showing the vault you’d be praising how perfect the vault was. Sad thing about it is neither gymnast has yet to show they can still do the vault in an international or national competition. Then like it was stated before in other debates with you on different articles what one is training does not mean that’s what they will be doing. A training gymnasium or center is completely different from an actual podium. You are starting to look more like bitter person and a party of one!!!!!!

  3. Claire says:

@Rien. I completely agree with you. The Amanar used to be impressive but with so many gymnasts doing it now it has lost some of its merit. I can’t wait until the harder vaults come back regardless of if its from Maroney or someone else. Much more impressive. And @Aaron, I think she was just stating the the title is misleading. Could be wrong.

  4. Ricarda says:

Aaron, I think he can say what he wants. This is public site and I like knowing that there are more harder vaults that the gymnasts can aspire. Im not trying to be in the middle of this but You seem to maybe have much anger towards him and maybe that should be kept between you two and not on this wall. I just think you are being not professional calling someone bitter that I think you don’t know. Rien please keep posting stuff you do. Its interesting to see more world opinions rather than just American thoughts.

  5. Ricarda says:

@Aaron shall I point out everything that is wrong with your little statement?.
    1. The only other pages ive posted on were about the Chinese and the Russians not the Usa.
    2. I said nothing about the content of the article, I was talking about the title. Is the Amanar the hardest vault? No (for reasons stated above.)
    3. You are biased for saying Maroney will be the one to do a triple twist not hong or a Russian whatever/ why did you even bring her up? Did I mention her? No.
    4. No I wouldn’t praise Aliyas vault because we all know her form is horrendous.
    5. PLEASE get up to date on you’re WORLD gymnastics because you will see that Komova has done the Amanar in national and international events.
    6. Did I ever say Aliya has her amanar back? NO
    7. Wait, training centers and podiums are not the same thing???? REALLY? That’s kinda obvious.
    8. I am a very happy person. I know pretty much everything about gymnastics. I was a gymnast for 14 years and it literally is my job to be unbiased and state the facts about EVERYONE. not just your favorites.
    9. Looks like I’m actually a party of 3 so far. @ Claire, yes that’s exactly what my point is and @ Ricarda thank you and for the record I am a woman.
Aaron, please take your complaints elsewhere, I am not interested in your blatent disregard for anything you don’t approve of.

  6. Admin says:

The title was taken from the original article.

  7. aaron ellis says:

@ Ricarda: I think you need to get a grip, then your life on top of some knowledge and then some business. You don’t take your own advice do you? Once again like I stated to Rien, going into the 2012 games the Amanar vault is the toughest vault being performed by gymnast female. Not the Fei and not the Prudonova. No one is doing the Prudonova. It did not say anything about it being the hardest vault ever. What event/meet or competition has Komova since her win @ JR Olympics has she thrown the Amanar vault? Russian Cup (NO), Russian Nationals (NO), Worlds (No) Europeans (NO) I never said she hadn’t thrown an Amanar or has NEVER performed One what do you think helped her win the JR Olympics? Komova, Nebieva nor Mustafina have not thrown this vault since 2010 for 02 and for 01 at a 2011 competition “nation or international,” Warm-ups DO NOT count no one medals on their warm-up. Then the reason I referenced Maroney is because she is the reigning World vault champion about to be the reigning Olympic champion that’s not being bias that’s fact. Have you seen Maroney’s vault “Amanar and Mustafina” she does them better than the person they have been named after. She of all FEMALE gymnasts will be the first to master the triple on vault if she doesn’t call it quits after these games. Her 3.5 twist on floor is the best being done including Mustafina. Then you claim to be a gymnast for fourteen year to my twenty four? I coach it now so what are you claiming about fourteen years and just because you’ve been in it for fourteen years doesn’t mean anything. Get a grip and don’t try and think because you’ve been doing it for 14 years, you can get on something and set someone straight. If you read any other posting from Rien he/she is very bitter when it comes to the Americans. They may not be as graceful as the Russians (ones opinion) but they are top dogs going into these games, they formed to the code of points not because that’s what they felt like doing. The swan went out with Nastia. Then “Aaron, please take your complaints elsewhere, I am not interested in your “blatent” (get spell check) disregard for anything you don’t approve of.” Then follow your own advice the conversation was between me and Rien, which once again FACT he/she always has something negative to say, or TRYS to correct someone’s story posting! You TRYING to attack me is because you didn’t agree with what I was saying which you don’t because if you did you wouldn’t have put your comment in! You getting on here and TRYING to read someone is no better than what you claimed I’m doing! I state fact chica! KOMOVA, MUSTAFINA, NEBIEVA NO AMANAR VAULT TO DATE!!!!!!!!! The only country pulling/throwing Amanar Vaults are the Americans all five females on the team, now “IF” they throw them at these games that’s a different story but until that moment arrives, SHUT IT!!!!! Oh and don’t worry I will be back on here to check your reply so I can re-read you!

  8. Rien says:

    @Ricarda LOL well said.
Aaron, you are the only one here who sounds bitter. I have two other people who agree with me so why cant you just move on?
Ps if you really feel the need to reply, please make it short because I simply don’t read it when its so long.
Pss. I love America and Americans. Proud to be one so if being realistic with our chances makes me bitter, than so be it.
Psss. Unless you’re transgendered I’m assuming you did men’s gymnastics therefore I don’t care about you’re twenty whatever years. You clearly have not learner much throughout them. Kinds embarrassing on your part.

  9. Ricarda says:

If you’re gonna hound someone about spellcheck learn how to use it first.
Barking off at the mouth at,
    I state fact Chica
    Nebieva

Is the title of this article “The Amanar -the toughest vault being performed by a female gymnast going into the 2012 games ”
    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Hence I am correct once again.

Did I say before her JO days?
    NOOOOOOOOO

LOL sorry I doubt you can predict the future so bs about Maroney.

I have read Riens other listings and I’m sorry if you cannot take a few simple corrections but she is correct. I sense a lot of anger coming from you so I suggest you perhaps take a break from this page because no doubt my replies will make you more angry seeing as how you don’t like to be corrected.
But make sure to check back after team final so I can prove to you that Russian did in fact throw amanars.

  10. aaron ellis says:

Please do and Chica is Spainish for girl so that was spelled correct! Bottom line the Amanar is the thoughest vault being used at the 2012 games. Like it says above, we’re not going off what other people who are not featured in these games. Please come back to the page I won’t feel stupid “IF” the Russians use the Amanar vault they have one. Like I stated before Komova and Mustafina have not thrown the Amanar vault as of yet 2011 Europeans for Mustafina, Jr Olmypics for Komova. Confirmation is not fact until it is done in an actual meet. I’m not worried the USA will have the gold around their necks while Russia wears Bronze, Not unless Romania messes up they have the Silver!
    USA GOLD
    ROM SILVER
    RUS or CHN Bronze

  11. aaron ellis says:

    Corretion it Spanish not Spainish

  12. aaron ellis says:

Correction once again Spanish not Spainish and coeection is spelled with a C. Wow did you like how I catch my own spelling errors.

  13. janet says:

Wow I think all three of you really need to calm down. You’re not getting anywhere. I read everything you all wrote and I can see all sides of the argument.
    1. @ Rien: I can understand aaronellis he’s simply stating that your post while it does have correct information. It is something that has nothing to do with the actual article. Going into the 2012 Games the Amanar vault is the highest scoring vault being used, so it is the toughest vault. This is why vary few gymnast are using it and not the DTY, The Fei is a hard vault but it does not have the start value of the Amanar.
    2. @Ricarda: you came kinda foul at aaronellis he was simply stating something he notices about Rien and then you attack him and throw what you do in his face. That’s the pot calling the kettle black don’t you think? Then the word “Chica” is a Spanish word used for girl. So he spelled it correctly and used it correctly not unless you’re male?
    3. @aaronellis: everyone is in titled to their opinion, by the looks of your post you sound American and its called freedom of speech, which you as an American should know that’s a right for everyone. Not everyone is going to be team USA, all will tell in time which team is better and who is the better all around gymnast, but even then there will always be debate because not everyone accepts the final results.
    4. @ Rien, Ricarda & aaronellis: Regardless of whom wins team, all around or event finals, this is the time where we as human beings come together as a big celebration and festivities in games that come every four years. Everyone that has made it to any Olympics is great! They are the best of the best, regardless of receiving a medal or not. You can pass judgment once you made it to the status of Olympian or Olympic Champion, but then you can always be defeated or surpassed by another athlete. So let’s not with the back in forth, Komova is great, Mustafina is great, McKayla is great, Russia is great, USA is great.

  14. aaron says:

@janet: You’re right! Best of luck and it will all play out in a matter of a week!

  15. janet says:

  16. Hai says:

I hate to say this, but @ rien you and Ricarda seem to be the bitter ones. I would never say that u r impartial @rien. That seems very laughable. Speaking from a former gymnast point of view, the amanar is the most difficult vault being performed now by a woman. I don’t consider what Pena is attempting a real thing- it’s just dangerous!!! Her produnova is scary to watch! I think the spirit of this article is dead on correct! The amanar is the most difficult vault performed by a woman NOW

  17. Ricarda says:

She didn’t say that it wasn’t the hardest vault being done now so you have no point. I’m not bitter at all I just don’t see why you’re attacking someone you don’t even know when all she was doing was mentionging some tougher vaults that will be interesting to look for in the future.
I see no wrong in that.

  18. Rien says:

Why am I not surprised you popped up on here. As I said before I was a gymnast for 14 years and now I am a sports journalist. I think I know my facts considering its what I get paid to do.
I never did say that it wasn’t the hardest vault being done currently and I agree Penas is nowhere near a prudonova.
Agree to disagree but I never said the article was wrong…..I said it isn’t the toughest vault. Which it isn’t.

  19. Ricarda says:

    Thank you Janet.
I was just stating that the sentence doesn’t make sense not the word.
Should USA win team gold and AA gold, I will humbley accept an I told you so.
    No hard feelings meant.

  20. Hai says:

Janet, you r right. Sometimes we all seem to forget that the art of gymnastics is sometime lost in the fervor for whom we root.

  21. Illja says:

Haha so funny how everybody is debated whether or not the amanar is the hardest vault. I only need to say 1 thing.. Ever heard or Yamilet Pena? She stood a handspring double front up today in podium training and according to all gymnastics blogs, it wasn’t scary, but actually good! Don’t know if you can count, but a 7.1 is 0.6 more than a 6.5, don’t you think? So the amanar is officially nót the hardest vault being done in London by a female gymnast. =) Furthermore I totally agree with Janet.. Everybody who has made it this far is exceptionally good and I will be cheering for all of them to have a great competition (although ofcourse I have my favorites too.. ;-))!

  22. Rien says:

For the first time I agree 100% with Hai. Thank you Janet.
I wish all the teams the best of luck.

  23. Rien says:

And so there @Aaron Ellis, we have it.
    USA for gold.
    Russia in second
    Romania third.
    Two amanars for Russia.
Prudonova officially the most difficult womens vault being done in these games.
Id say we were both about half correct. Yayy team USA and best of luck to those competing in the AA, interesting the Wieber wont be there.

  24. Rien says:

I meant to say it will be interesting that Wieber wont be there.

  25. RS says:

Maroney LOST the vault event finals. Enough said about that.

  26. Admin says:

She didn’t lose, she came second. It’s gymnastics – mistakes can happen.

  27. Aly says:

Besides, Maroney fell. Falling and still clinching silver just goes to show how good of a gymnast she is. If it was any other gymnast that fell, they wouldn’t have even made it to the podium. Much less gotten silver.

  28. Rien says:

Maroney definitely didn’t lose. She has an Olympic gold and silver medal. Sounds like a winner to me. Congrats to Izbasa though, she earned her medal well.
